Malèna, featuring Monica Bellucci

Monica Bellucci plays the village Goddess in Malèna, a story about a boy maturing into manhood during WW-II. If you can deal with subtitled foreign films, I highly recommend this one. It's directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, and paints a portrait of adolescence that reminded me of my own puberty. And guess, what, Monica wears a slip in the film!

A Boy's First Crush This movie touched me deeply because it graciously examines what happens when a boy discovers his attraction to women. The fantasies, the awkwardness, the obsessive qualities that surface when a boy becomes fixated on sexual attraction for the first time, were treated with gentle respect, a human respect american filmmakers often seem to miss.	.
	Awestruck by Monica Bellucci In this scene, the young lad, Renato is watching Malèna through a peep hole. He is curious and love-struck, and clearly means no harm to Malèna. He's not a "peeping Tom", he's thirteen. Our politically correct non-culture has no place for Renato.

	Malèna has curves. I love that Monica Bellucci isn't an anorexic movie star like so many american actresses. She fills out her black lacy slip so wonderfully. Acko! She has hips!

The Twirling Slip Still shots just don't do justice to one aspect of slips that is so fascinating and alluring. The way that slips move over a woman's body, outlining a curve here, a shimmer of light reflected there, the satiny wrinkles forming and disappearing as her hips sway. A slip makes a woman flow, and magnifies what we already know, women's beauty makes the sun rise in the morning!




Slip Cinematography The filmmakers clearly understood why slips are so alluring and sexy. The camera focuses several times on Malèna's swishy slip, celebrating the mysterious nature of sexual allure, that "something" subtle and powerful. It's not just a prop, it's part of the courtship. In the US, what do we have like this? Let's see. Awkward masturbation scenes made into comedy in teenager films? How about Quentin Tarantino's sneaking his foot fetish into his films? That's about as close as we get. Rent this film, it is delightful. Ciáo Italia!
