The Classic Leg TeaseThe movie opens with the first frame of Doris smoothing her very sheer nylons under her powder blue full slip. Doris Day sure knew the art of leg tease. I remember seeing this as a young lad, no wonder I developed a leg fetish! See how she holds her leg in the air crossed over the other, and her hands glide along the contours of her shapely gam? I mean c'mon. It seems unnatural unless you know what posing this way does to a man's soul. This kind of tease is truly a lost art.
Holy Slip BatmanSee how Doris carefully places her slip over her nylon tops above? This is lovely fetish art. What would you need to do that for? Won't the slip just fall when she stands as she does in the next screen capture? So daintily placing her slip on her nylon-clad thigh with her fingertips has some meaning to her, doesn't it? To me, Doris acts like the slip is a vestment she is handling in a religious ceremony. I interpret this as an act of beauty, rather than evidence of the subjugation of women. I feel worshipful of her, gloriously pure and radiant.
On the other hand...As she walks to the closet, I imagine the uppity witch in her has appeared. After all, if you're a goddess worthy of worship..."where are my subjects?", she complains to herself.
Changed HistoryI remember Doris Day as a buxom bombshell. Looking at these pictures, she seems rather waif-like. These days(in America), with so many people overweight and women getting over-the-top body-deforming breast implants, she looks somehow smaller than she did 40 years ago.
Yes, I am pretty!I love seeing a woman primping herself in the mirror. To me, it can be a woman's acknowledgment to herself of her own beauty, and not necessarily narcissistic. And that's exciting to me, I want to relish in her beauty with her.
Peignor in the BoudoirI'm almost afraid to say it, but for me, more clothes can be sexier than less clothes. This peignor robe is quite demure, but that's Doris! Ever notice that packaged cookies sometimes have 2 or 3 layers of packaging? (at least they used to 25 years ago when I still ate that stuff) The layers of wrapping build the anticipation and excitement and the mystery. How much fun to slowly unwrap the package. That really crumbles my cookie! |

Pillow Talk, featuring Doris Day
Pillow Talk is a romantic comedy from the 1959 that teamed Doris Day with Rock Hudson. They appeared in three films together and this is the most memorable flick. Doris Day plays an interior decorator who finds she's sharing a telephone party line with a womanizing songwriter (Hudson) - she finds him unbearable at the end of the phone, but of course they meet and the chase begins. Rock goes about romancing Doris in the guise of a nice Southern boy and almost succeeds. The supporting cast include Thelma Ritter and Tony Randall, perfect foils for the glamorous leads.
